Excluding Files and Folders during USMT

By | January 17, 2014

Normally when running USMT to capture there are files and folders that I don’t want to capture, typically these maybe folders containing extracted drivers or certain portions of the users profiles, to do this I use the below code.

Adding new directories or files in is as simple as cutting and pasting one of the existing entries and replacing with the name of the folder or file that you wish to exclude.  Your saved .xml file should then be copied to the directory containing the USMT executables, if you are using SCCM remember to update the distribution point.  Once your file is in this directory you just need to add /i:migexclude.xml to your USMT capture command line.
